Plot: Witty satire about a charming and manipulative character Lady Susan who excels at navigating the social scene and getting what she wants. Based on the Jane Austen novella ‘Lady Susan’.

Comment: Witty, entertaining and understated in the Austen style. However, it is significantly different from the main Austen novels, being much more satirical and even a bit biting. The main character Lady Susan is a very clever conversationalist who is good at manoeuvring events and people to make things happen.

Only criticism: I found it quite difficult to follow, as the conversation is very dense and witty but spoken quickly, so I was unable to catch all the points being made. Actors: Katy Beckinsale excellent in the lead role and Stephen Fry up to his usual high standards in a support role.
